In a city rife with authentic Victorian pubs, Mulligans might well take the crown. Established in 1732, it hasn’t had a re-fit for a century, give or take, and don’t ask for a wine list or a food menu unless you want to feel foolish. Pints and whiskey - and perhaps a pinch of snuff - are the order of the day.
Other notable characters who have propped up the bar include President John F Kennedy, who stopped in for a pint of Guinness and Judy Garland, who was a regular whilst performing at the nearby Theatre Royal. Nowadays, you might rub up against actors, Dublin Port dockers and, of course, the ever-thirsty Trinity students.
