New Orleans’ French Quarter is studded with iconic establishments, and hence it is difficult not to cross a street without stumbling across one or more. Located at the intersection of St Louis Street and Chartres Street, Napolean House looks dilapidated and run down from the outside, but has a 200 year old history behind it. Inside, it is a cosy and lovely place with celebrity photos and visitor graffiti plastered on the walls. And then there’s the corner that Tennessee Williams frequented. But above all, it is its cocktails that will impress you. Though it did not invent it, Napoleon House is credited with immensely popularising the Pimm’s Cup #1, made with gin, lemonade, a fizzy soda, and cucumber. It is refreshing and deceptively light, but packs in a punch. Napoleon House also does a version without the cucumber which is equally delicious.
