You’d imagine a new New York bar to be along the lines of a loud, crazy watering hole, but this recent addition to the cityscape, is a cool and calm contender—vying for the top slot in the most unassuming manner. The feel and look of the bar has been styled to pay homage to classic film noir. If you’ve watched the movie of the same name—a detective film set in post-war Vienna—you’ll get what the owners are going for. Co-owned by two extremely successful restaurateurs, both of whom are originally from Austria, The Third Man comprises of woody interiors, white-washed walls, candle-lighting and vases filled with green—and is as inviting as it sounds. Dress-code is never an issue here, and this isn’t one of those places that will pack you in like sardines. It’s low-key, it’s good, and everyone’s welcome.
