Lonie Walker is a singer, pianist and Chicago personality who played local venues for more than 20 years before settling here in her own club in 1987. You’ll certainly hear jazz and blues – original compositions and covers – but the Wonderbar is not the place for music snobs or beard-twiddlers. Instead, the tone is set by a sign above the door: ‘Real Fun Music’.
Lonie (who plays Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) and her Bad Ass Band deliver musical delights, witty repartee and audience participation – house rules dictate that you raise your hands in the air and shout ‘Wonderbar’ whenever Lonie does. The place stays open late and attracts a diverse crowd.
