See the sea in West Bengal
We don't really think of beaches when we think of West Bengal. But, over the years, beaches here in the Eastern state of India have managed to attract visitors. Gone are the days when people would visit only the beaches of Digha, or head to the neighbouring state of Odisha's popular beach town, Puri. The once obscure beaches of West Bengal have developed over the years, and are today visited by holidaymakers. The good thing is that some of these beaches are still not visited by too many people. So you are in for a good time without the crowd of people.
Digha
The most popular beach destination of West Bengal, Digha is about 187 km away from Kolkata. Perfect for a winter break, the beach town’s gentle waves have been attracting visitors for a long time. Fondly called the Brighton of the East, by Warren Hastings, it is an unmissable experience.
Bakkhali
Part of the Sunderbans, Bakkhali is astounding in its beauty and experiences. It is located at the edge of the famous mangrove forests of Sunderbans. Romance the Bay of Bengal here in Bakkhali, and visit nearby islands. One of the most popular being Henry Island.
Mandarmani
Located in east Midnapore district, Mandarmani has received a lot of attention in recent years. The 13-km beach is supposedly one of India’s longest drivable beaches. So you can drive in here all the way from the city. It is increasingly popular among young vacationers.
Shankarpur
This picturesque beach town is about 14 km away from Digha. A popular fishing village, the crowd here is far less than Digha. You can enjoy endless strolls by the beach, and enjoy the choicest seafood. The beach town is also popular among photographers.
Junput
The beauty of Junput is arresting, and it is one of the most popular beaches near Kolkata. The place is great to visit with your family, and is perfect for a day trip. The casuarina trees lined up by the beach add to the beauty of the place.
