There is sad news for travellers coming to Jammu and Kashmir, as they will not be able to experience Sonmarg in December. The tourism department of Jammu and Kashmir (JKTDC) has not taken adequate measures in keeping the tourist resorts here open in Sonmarg during winters. Tourists are in fact returning from their journey to Sonmarg due to roadblock. Heavy snow this season has caused troubles in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kashmir being a winter destination, it gathers a lot of attention from tourists during the winter months when Sonmarg sightseeing is especially fun in the snow. But the facilities aren’t adequate this time, and hence visitors are forced to return disappointed. It should also be noted here that Sonmarg is not really developed given the tourist attraction it receives every year.

With the potential to become a very important tourist destination, Sonmarg attracts numerous tourists during both summer and winter months. However, this year the snowfall has made it inaccessible, and so it is lagging behind on its potential. The natural beauty of Sonmarg is the factor that makes it one of the most sought after destinations in both summer and winter seasons. It is in fact an all-weather tourist destination, and requires proper resources to welcome winter tourists.
The closure of Sonmarg is also a loss for hoteliers and others who are associated with the tourism business here in Sonmarg. ¬Only time will tell whether tourists can access Sonmarg in the coming weeks, so we can only wait and pray.
