If you think it’s odd to find a beach bar in Vienna, you’re not alone, but if you take in the fact that the beach is an artificial one, you can see how this is all possible. Strandbar Herrmann is a great place to enjoy the Viennese summer, smack dab next to the Danube Canal in central Vienna.
Relax in comfortable deck chairs outside, set under parasols, while water flows by in the canal. Refreshing drinks and decent food are available from the bar, and music spins on the turntable all night long. The only real drawback is that there’s no swimming in the canal, of course. An artificial beach in a landlocked country can only get you so far.
