The Barony
Traditional boozer in a New Town setting
Talk of the town: As well as frequenting the bars of the area, it is thought that ‘witches’ were kept in some of the dungeons on Broughton Street whilst awaiting execution.

Traditional pubs are ten a penny in Edinburgh but finding the good ones in the increasingly trendified New Town is becoming difficult. Located on hip Broughton Street amidst the cocktail and wine bars, Barony retains its old world charm whilst attracting an equally discerning clientele as the surrounding venues.
Dark wooden walls are given warmth by a blazing open fire whilst locals, students and a select few visitors partake of one of the traditional cask ales or sup on a single malt. Whilst it’s always an atmospheric spot for those looking for a good chinwag, Sunday night’s live music gives the crowds another reason to visit.
