French bakers might be elated in the near future as the baguette could find itself in UNESCO's list of cultural treasures. The very popular French craft loaf has been the part-and-parcel of French dining culture for a long time. Made of wheat flour, yeast, salt, and water, a traditional baguette takes time, and the understanding of how to bake.
There are two other essentially French things that were competing against the baguette. The Biou d’Arbois wine festival in the Jura region, and you even have the zinc-plated rooftops of Paris. But the culture minister of France has recommended that baguette be the official entry. The tradition of buying a freshly baked loaf of baguette from the market is as old as time here in France. That is the first thing people do in the morning. In order to continue the tradition, to leave a good example for the future generations, the baguette must be inducted into the UNESCO’s list of cultural treasures.
