Zagreb’s rich and tumultuous history means that the city has a plethora of museums. However, the most endearing is not the one that is related to history but one that examines the anatomy of relationships. Unusual in nature and intensely poignant, the Museum of Broken Relationships in Old Town is filled with relics of broken relationships from all over the world, each with its own passionate story. In addition, Zagreb’s Cultural Mile that boasts the city’s most important heritage buildings also includes the most important museums. It’s a good idea to start with Zagreb Museum in Old Town near St Mark’s Church. It takes visitors through local history and provides background information about the city. For art lovers, the best place is the Arts and Crafts Museum, located in a 19th century building in Marshal Tito Square, brimming with over 100,000 artefacts. Archaeology fans will love a visit to the Archaeological Museum which has over 400,000 artefacts. If you have time, also visit the Gallery of Modern Art that has a large collection of artworks, Ethnographic Museum and Mimara Museum.
