Sangdee Art Gallery

As much a bar as gallery, Sangdee doubles your fun with vibrant exhibitions and a revolving calendar of events. Offering live music, open mic nights and dance lessons, it’s impossible to be bored when you’re at Sangdee Gallery. The gallery also plays host to a number of community-driven workshops, such as laughter yoga and singing classes. Private art lessons are also available upon inquiry. Serving up classy cocktails and hot coffee alike, the colorful bar is decorated with a vibrant wall mural painted by the Singapore-born and Chiang Mai-based artist Li Li Tan. Her hand-painted flowers brighten up the space, lending a warm energy to the already cozy atmosphere.
If you want to shoot the breeze with someone, the gallery’s owner (Po) can usually be found sitting nearby. Always up for a chat, Po’s not only a good person to have a laugh with, but someone who knows the city’s art history like the back of his hand. Sangdee’s the kind of place where you can go during the day to have a leisurely coffee, or spend all night dancing your buns off. They also serve delicious snacks and food, so you can easily spend hours here. With three floors, the building works well for exhibitions: the ground floor is usually reserved for live music and art, while the second features a balcony and quieter space for reflecting on pieces. Workshops are sometimes held on the 3rd level, high above the city’s busy streets. Even if you’re not a big art fan, Sangdee will show you a good time. And if you do love art? Then all the better.
