Hit the sand in style
Word to the wise: Parking is at a premium at Sydney beaches and parking inspectors hand out fines like chicko rolls. Where possible, take public transport.

Strip at your own risk: Topless sunbathing is not uncommon at Sydney beaches, but it does attract attention. If you want to be truly at one with nature, head to the legal nudist beach at Lady Bay, near South Head.
Beach to bar: While (almost) anything goes on the sand, you won't be served at a nearby pub without a shirt on. Flip-flops and shorts are usually OK, but you're likely to need closed-in shoes and slacks to get past the doorman after dark. CBD dress codes are more formal.
Sun protection: Sunburn can occur in as little as 15 minutes on a hot day in Australia. Lather up every two hours with broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen.

Family friendly: Most Sydney beaches are alcohol and smoke-free zones, with police performing regular patrols.
