Volunteering is, perhaps, the most perfect form of travelling with a purpose. If you wish to lend a helping hand to the locals while on a trip to Leh-Ladakh, volunteering might just be the thing you are looking for. With a month or more to spare, there is a lot that you can volunteer for in this area. The range of activities vary from teaching languages (mainly English), photography, sports (ice-skating, hockey) and basic computer skills, to helping out in building classrooms and libraries, nature and wildlife conservation projects, teachers’ training and more. With a month or more to spare, there is a lot that you can volunteer for in this area. The range of activities vary from teaching languages (mainly English), photography, sports (ice-skating, hockey) and basic computer skills, to helping out in building classrooms and libraries, nature and wildlife conservation projects, teachers’ training and more. You can approach a number of organisations and schools for volunteering opportunities, including SECMOL (The Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh), Volunteer Ladakh, 17,000 Feet, LEDEG (Ladakh Ecological Development Group), Druk White Lotus School, Dutch Foundation for Ladakhi Nuns, Snow Leopard Conservancy, to name a few.
