The centre of Mumbai, this neighbourhood is at a bit of a remove from standard issue tourist locales. It throws up vignettes of Mumbaikars going about their daily lives at the Kabootarkhana (an enclosure for pigeons) or Shivaji Park (proclaimed playground of cricket superstars). You have to be a very committed people watcher to brave peak traffic hours which last half the day, but the moments of quiet and repose, either at the Portuguese Church or the popular bakery Oven Fresh, make it worth the wait.
