The stunning Art Gallery of Ontario in downtown Toronto (at the edge of Chinatown) is a showpiece building that showcases both art from Canada and masterpieces from around the world. The AGO, as it's known locally, was recently redesigned by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry to increase the amount of floor space and house a priceless European art collection. Gehry was inspired by Canada's natural world to create a building that makes liberal use of Douglas fir and glass-enclosed spaces that fill the galleries with light. While world famous artists like Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Monet are represented at the AGO, it's the Canadian collection you shouldn't miss. In this wing, you will see stunning canvases by legendary Canadian artists that depict the rugged beauty of the wilderness landscape.
