Talk of the town: It is said that the theatre is haunted by the grey-suited ghost of Albert - an old stagehand who died in a freak accident here many decades ago.

Although originally opened as a super-cinema in 1929 - the first year of the 'talkies' - The Playhouse is now the UK’s largest theatre, hosting a wide variety of musicals and concerts, as well as being one of the most architecturally interesting buildings in the New Town. With a full capacity in excess of 3,000, and a central location just off Leith Street, it attracts some of the biggest musical shows from around the world.
With different productions every night of the week - ranging from famous West End musicals to Russian ballet performances, international stadium bands to local tribute acts, stand-up comedians to popular psychic shows - you should be able to find something to suit your interests.
