Located in the beautiful hills of Kumaon, Naukuchiatal is a hill town popular for its lake, a nine cornered one, which rests peacefully in the lap of nature. Surrounded by hills on all sides and situated at more than 1200 m above sea level, the lake is an apt picnic spot with boating options and birdwatching. Though there are other interesting places to visit in Naukuchiatal, which is a part of the lake district of Uttarakhand, the lake its biggest attraction. Together with Nainital, Bhimtal and Sattal, Naukuchiatal forms the lake district of Uttarkhand. With a very pleasant climate, surrounding hills and a serene lake, Naukuchiatal is an ideal getaway in the hills for a relaxed holiday. Naukuchiatal is known for the popular Bhuransh, a local squash made from rhododendron which can be picked up from any of the fruit shops. Any of the numerous local produces from Himjoli (an organisation supported by NGOs) would be the best souvenirs to take back home.
