AAI has further revealed that flights on the Adampur-New Delhi route will be available to travellers on a daily basis. This will also make Adampur the fourth aerodrome in Punjab to have flights under the government’s Udan scheme.
"Since Adampur airport was selected as one of the airports for operation of RCS flights in the first phase of the bidding for the routes, and flights were to be commenced at the earliest, a small fully air-conditioned terminal building spread over 375 sq m area has been constructed with pre-fabricated structure along with an approach road, a small car parking and other associated structures as interim measure," said a statement from AAI.
The Adampur airport is already home to all sorts of modern passenger facilities, including the presence of flight information display system, CCTV cameras, ticketing counters of different airlines, and other public conveniences.
Going forward, the AAI is also planning to come up with a 5,000 sq m terminal building at Adampur, with a taxi track and car parking facilities among other things. When ready, the terminal building will be capable of handling a total of 300 passengers on a daily basis. Some of the facilities that the terminal building will have are high-tech baggage handling system, glass elevators, escalators, aerobridges, and the capacity to park up to two Airbus A320 type of aircraft at a time.
