In a latest development, Costa Rica is asking travellers to offset their carbon footprint. Travellers leave immense carbon footprints when they travel by air; by offsetting, they can help turn into a carbon neutral company. This latest initiative by Costa Rica is being called Pura Vida Pledge, and is looking for voluntary donations.
The Pura Vida Pledge donations will go towards developing forests, green spaces, local farms management, and more. The country is looking forward to being carbon neutral by 2050.
It has been estimated that Costa Rica would require to raise $3.5 million for such projects relating to the environment. This is even if only 10 per cent of the emission were offset. The offset amount is determined by an online calculator. Costa Rica’s Minister of Tourism is calling it a step forward in responsible tourism.
Currently, the nation has 25 per cent of national parks of its total landscape, while 30 per cent of its energy sources are renewable.
