The Marina Barrage is located in the Marina Bay area, not too far away from Gardens by the Bay. Officially opened in 2008, the barrage was built across the mouth of the Marina Channel to control flooding and also created Singapore’s 15th reservoir, the Marina Reservoir which is also Singapore’s first reservoir located in such a central downtown area. One key feature of the area is the green roof which is a large sprawling sloping lawn which is very popular among families and tourists alike for picnicking, kite flying and letting children run amok. It also offers a panoramic view of the surrounding bay area, and gets especially crowded during celebrations where fireworks occur, namely during the August National Day period or New Year’s Day. There is also a museum of sorts called the Sustainable Singapore Gallery which is interactive and showcases Singapore’s efforts towards environmental suitability. Other recreational water activities like boating, kayaking and windsurfing also take place in the Marina Basin as the dam keeps it unaffected by tides. Also, look out for the Solar Park, one of the largest collections in Singapore of over 400 solar panels that keep the park lit at night.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
