Situated between Hyderabad and Secunderabad, this large lake is one of the city’s most picturesque sights. It was built on one of the tributaries of the Musi river in 1562, during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. Its biggest attraction is the 16 metre Buddha stone statue installed in the middle of the lake, one of the largest freestanding Buddha statues in the world. Visitors can hire a boat to the statue from Lumbini Park, an amusement park located on the banks of the lake. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation also provides water scooters and speed boats, and organises a dining cruise on the lake.
