If you visit Stockholm during winter, why not embrace our proximity to the Arctic by ice skating? There are several great parks with free ice skating rinks: Kungsträdgården has a small rink and offers skate rentals as well as a great atmosphere and there are loads of stands with hot drinks and goodies; Vasa Park also has a great artificially frozen rink, but you'll have to bring your own skates. There are several great parks with free ice skating rinks: Kungsträdgården has a small rink and offers skate rentals as well as a great atmosphere and there are loads of stands with hot drinks and goodies; Vasa Park also has a great artificially frozen rink, but you'll have to bring your own skates.

If you're feeling more adventurous, book a long-distance guided skate outing on the natural ice of Stockholm's waterways. Iceguide provides five- to nine-hour guided skating tours, complete with safety equipment and instruction. They only offer tours after 1 January on Saturdays and Sundays.
