This is probably one of the most beautiful museums that I have ever seen. Housed in small caves with lush green surroundings, the museum is set in the mountains of Kaliurang region near Jogja. This private museum was started by the Haryono family, and it takes you through the collections and royal relics of the rulers of Jogja. As you listen to the stories of the Mataram Dynasty, you also get a sneak preview of the art collection of the royalty as well as their traditions and customs. The museum is now managed by Ulating Blencong Institute. There are several sculptures here that are inspired by Hinduism and Buddhism, but photography is not allowed. You can stop here for lunch as well.
