The park is nice in all seasons, even winter, when the snow makes it quiet and beautiful – really still. It's ornamented by several statues to famous folks, among them Chester Alan Arthur, the twenty first President of the United States and Secretary of State William H. Seward – who purchased Alaska from the Russians. But most people will be more familiar with the park from vision of the annual turning on of the Christmas tree lights – Madison Square Park has the first public Christmas tree.
