Sri Kashi Vishwanath temple

Not far away from the Ganga is one of the oldest temples in Hinduism, Sri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Deriving its name from the city Kashi, the temple was built in 1780 by the Late Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva temples. The main deity housed within its premises is known by the name Vishwanatha or Vishweshwara, both translating to mean ‘ruler of the universe.’ The temple is also the starting point of the sacred Panchkoshi Yatra—a 88.5 km long barefoot walk encircling Kashi.
