Nestled on a mountain peak verdant with a charming landscape of green foliage and rolling mountains as the backdrop, Nandbhavan in Nandgaon is the opulent house of Nandji, the foster father of Lord Krishna, witness to many youth-childhood stories of Lord Krishna and his brother Baldev.Sprawled in a vast complex with a few ascending stairs leading to its entrance, Nandbhavan is affluent in its manifestation with wide open spaces amid palaces that hold fascinating rooms and mythical places, each allocated to and wrapped up in stories and characters from an era of spiritual significance. Besides palatial rooms, the magnificent 19th century red sandstone temple of Nand Raiji is particularly alluring. The inner ceiling and walls are awash in beautiful paintings and murals that bring to life the episodic scenes that were once played in the house for real. In the temple are enshrined deities of father Nand, mother Yashoda, Lord Krishna, brother Balaram, goddess Radhika along with the other members of the family.
Being a major site in the Hindu legends, Nandbhavan tends to be crowded most of the days with converging pilgrims from all round the world. Reserve an hour or two for this interesting place―roam in the premises, soak in the legends or simply get a feel―it basks in a timeless power that has the amazing ability to transport you to a yester-world, of course, if only you’d allow it to!
