Singapore in full bloom
First established on Fort Canning Hill by keen naturalist and Singapore's founder, Sir Stamford Raffles, this emerald oasis didn't realise its full potential until moving to its present site in 1859 and bestowed with top-notch Kew horticulturists shipped in from the mother country. The centrepiece of this lovingly tended 74 ha expanse of tropical greenery is the opulent orchid garden showcasing the results of a successful in-house breeding program, but the surrounding palm-shaded grounds peppered with sculptures, waterfalls and quaint gazebos also offer a welcome diversion from the city bustle.
