Enjoy a film under the stars
Word to the wise: It's best to buy tickets online well in advance, as they sell like hotcakes every summer. Any remaining tickets are available at theatre box offices each night.
Grab a rug, stock the picnic basket and catch a flick at one of Sydney’s many outdoor summer cinemas. Full-length features old and new are screened at the Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema at the Belvedere Amphitheatre in Centennial Park from December-March, St. George Openair Cinema at Mrs. Macquarie's Point next to the Royal Botanic Gardens from January-February, ME Bank Starlight Cinema at North Sydney Oval from January-March and Bondi Openair Cinema at the Bondi Pavilion from January-March.
Short film festival Flickerfest also screens at the Bondi Pavilion during January, while Tropfest, the world's largest short film festival, is screened free in Sydney's Domain over one night every February.
Most venues have a licensed bar, food stalls and allow you to keep your ticket for a future session if the heavens open.
