Once you’re done exploring the beaches of Phuket, head to the green covers of Khao Sok National Park with your family and you’d enter a world of its own. Somewhere halfway between the Andaman and Gulf coasts, this wondrous park will startle you with its flora and fauna population. During rainy months you may spot boars, gibbons, deer, gaurs, bears, tapirs, marbled cats, wild elephants and perhaps even a tiger. And you'll find more than 300 bird species, 38 varieties of bats and one of the world’s largest (and smelliest) flowers, Rafflesia Kerrii, only here. If you’re heading there during the rains, be careful of the slippery trails, leeches and carry your rainwear. Other than the rainy months, the ideal time to visit the park is December to April. The park is home to various trails starting from the Visitor Centre, leading to some gorgeous waterfalls and forest hinterlands. Another attraction in the park is the Cheow Lan Lake. The main road to Khao Sok also has guesthouses, resorts, restaurants and drinking stops. Please check the ticket prices on the website before visiting.
