Schönbrunn Palace

A summer residence fit for an emperor, or an empress
Word to the wise: If you want to see everything, budget a significant chunk of time for your visit. Apart from the enormous palace, you’ll need an hour or two if you plan on strolling through the massive gardens and park in their entirety.

The Schönbrunn Palace, along with its sprawling Tyrolean gardens, is a staple on the Viennese tourist scene, resplendent with the history of the Hapsburg Dynasty. The grounds, which once hosted a hunting castle, provide the perfect setting for a day of leisurely strolls, surrounded by green lawns and clear pools.
The interior of the palace is simply stunning. The main residence, and the outlying buildings, were constructed in the Baroque style during the reign of Queen Maria Teresia. The many rooms brim over with Rocco design, and various objectives befitting a royal lineage. Here you’ll find frescos, ornate furniture and crystal chandeliers, as well as exquisitely carved and assembled imperial furniture, made to the tastes of Austria’s former ruling class. Spend a day at the Schönbrunn Palace and partake in the royal life, if only for a short while.
