This classic traverse across the rugged Zanskar Range from Lamayuru to Padum on the Srinagar–Leh highway, usually takes 10 days. The Lamayuru to Padum trek is hugely popular but very demanding long-distance route. Some fit trekkers, after arriving in Padum, continue for another week to trek all the way to Darcha (Via Shingo La) on the Manali - Leh highway. It is then called the Grand Traverse of Ladakh & Zanskar. There have been some roads built along some villages in the beginning of the trek. This difficult trek passes through undulating landscapes, zigzagging paths and plunges through to the idyllic villages of Skyumpata, Lingshed, and over the passes of Hanuma La and Parfi La. The remote Lingshed monastery is an oasis of hope in the otherwise barren landscape. The Lamayuru to Padum Trek is not to be attempted as a first-time trek not without adequate preparation, ponies and a guide.
Landscape: Beautiful villages set amidst valleys, many passes and therefore lots of ups and downs, beautiful mountain landscapes
Best time to go: June-October
Difficulty Level: Moderate-Difficult
