Trams in New Orleans, called streetcars, go back to the early 19th century and is a fabulous way to see New Orleans, though they are used as transportation by the locals. The St Charles Avenue line, with cars painted a dark green, is a heritage line and has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operated tram system in the world and has been running since 1835. After Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans, it also gained the distinction of running 24 hours. It runs through some pretty neighbourhoods including the two universities, Audubon Park, and the lovely bungalows of Garden district. A single journey, irrespective of length, on a streetcar is $1.25, but a 24 hour ticket priced at $3, can be used on all the streetcars through the period, and is value for money.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
