Home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, Sunderban National Park is the largest mangrove forest in the world. The Sunderbans region gets its name from the Sundari trees, which were once found in abundance here. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the world’s largest deltas formed by the confluence of three rivers, Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghna. The Park is home to a large population of tigers, as well as wild animals such as the spotted deer, wild boar, Indian fox, Gangetic dolphin and many more. The eastern part of the Park lies in Bangladesh and it is estimated that the collective population of tigers in the region could be about 400. Adapting themselves to the saline and watery environment, the tigers at the Park are good swimmers and almost amphibious.
