Galway

Bohemian Galway is a fun, arty city, known for its medieval charms and cultural vibe. The city’s 15th-century walls, parts of which can still be seen in the Corbett Court shopping centre at Eyre Square, extend further to form the Spanish Arch, a prominent city attraction, which also houses the city’s museum. Eyre Square is the city’s main ‘meeting point’, surrounded by shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels. The most happening area of Galway is the Latin Quarter, brimming with quirky shops with colourful facades, restaurants and bars with swinging trad music and a lot of craic (fun). The medieval St Nicholas’ Church is worth a visit, especially on weekends when the nearby Church Lane hosts the Galway Market―a centuries-old street market where you will find fresh local produce as well as handicrafts. Galway’s Christmas Market is also held here from 14 to 24 December every year. Galway is the city of festivals―prominent ones include the Galway Arts Festival in July and the Galway International Oyster Festival in September. The Forster Court Hotel in Galway city centre is a conveniently located hotel, very close to the bus and train station.
