This old plantation house has been turned into a small but lovely museum that is worth visiting, just for the architecture alone. For anyone interested in antiques and history, there are ample original features, furniture, glassware and ornaments on display. This is a hands-on museum where the staff is happy to open the wardrobes and China cabinets so that you can get a closer look. There are many Spanish speaking guides on hand to take you on a tour of the museum, or you can hire an English-speaking guide nearby. Rumour has it that the family that once lived in this house had fourteen children, no running water and could see the slaves working on the plantation from the house. Head up to the top for a stunning view of Trinidad as this museum is located right in the heart of the city, and offers an impressive bird’s-eye view. Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am till 5 pm and with only $2 as entrance fee, you must plan a visit to Museo Romantico.
