If you like to step away from the outdoors and immerse yourself into local culture with a bit of history, then visit the Squamish Lil’wat Culture Centre. Whistler in ancient times was an important trading route between the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations and the people wandered here, hunting and gathering. Squamish, the town which is home to the indigenous people referred to as the People of the Sacred Water is about 45 minutes away by road, but the cultural centre is located right in Whistler. Take the tour of the cultural journey, which gives you an insight into the lives of these men and women, their traditions and beliefs and learn a bit about their arts and crafts. Music, dance, paintings, sculptures and installations fill the venue as the guides tell you stories of the people who lived in harmony with nature. And before you leave, have a coffee at the Thunderbird Cafe.
