One of the most sureshot ways of making the most of a trip to Kerala is to time your visit to the state in such a way that you get to witness the Kumarakom Boat Race. Held on Vembanad Lake in the quaint town of Kumarakom, this boat race is also known as the Nehru Boat Race, named after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Held between the months of August and September every year, this boat race is participated by hundreds of local boatmen who row long snake boats fiercely on the serene Vembanad Lake. The fun in witnessing this race lies in the thrill that is brought about by this activity over an otherwise calm water body.
