Soviet kitsch and propaganda adorn the dark walls of People's Republik in Central Square, attracting the political, subversive, and those who just affect the pose. The decor and moody interior of this bar understandably attract local revolutionaries and activist poets. Perhaps more surprising is that style-conscious hipsters also flock here, usually annoying the old-timers who may be sporting genuine peg legs and beer-soaked beards. Any social divide, however, is soon bridged with a round of cheap, fresh beer and a game of darts. Read less
