Bizarre travel: Newly weds, among others, stranded on Canadian mountain, after gondola shuts down

Gondola rides offer a thrilling experience to visitors without any doubt. Likewise, places that offer gondola rides are also popular among tourists. On similar lines, thousands of people visit the summit of Sulphur Mountain, set in Banff National Park in Canada, to experience the ride of their lifetime.

However, things were not rosy for some groups of visitors who, earlier this week, took a cable car to the mountain. As luck would have it, they had to spend an entire night at the cable service’s summit lodge after a power outage, caused due to lightning, led to a complete shutdown of the services.
As per the reports, those stuck in the gondola cabin, had to be rescued using an emergency drive system. Those who were already at the top of the mountain had to spend the night on the mountain, before they were rescued by helicopters the next morning. It’s intriguing to note that despite the bad weather, some choose to hike down the mountain in the middle of the night.

As per the reports, among those stuck on the lodge were the newlyweds, Jaclyn and Brennen McConnell, who had also taken the Banff Gondola cable service to the mountaintop to click pictures on their wedding day. Just like the others, they also had to spend the night up there.
Meanwhile, if you go by the social media posts of those who were stuck at the summit, there was lack of communication from employees of Banff Gondola, which caused panic among them, and made the situation a bit more uncomfortable. The gift shop up there had to give away blankets, and sweaters to people stuck there.

However, after this mishap, the Banff Gondola responded by posting a clarification on Instagram. It stated that following the power outage, their first priority was to ensure the safety of those in the gondola cabins. Once visitor’s safety was ensured, their team provided food, blankets and beverages, to keep everyone as comfortable as possible up there.
