COVID advisory returns: Use masks in crowded spaces, random test for international travellers

As China sees a huge spike in COVID cases, international travellers arriving from the country and other nations will now be subjected to random sample testing for Coronavirus at airports. This move comes in view of the recent surge in COVID cases in some parts of the world, and following the Union Health Ministry's top level meeting to review the current COVID-19 situation in India.

As per the latest news reports, three cases of Omicron subvariant BF.7, apparently the strain that is responsible for driving China's current surge of COVID cases, have been detected in India so far.After the meeting, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that COVID-19 is not over yet, and that has directed all concerned authorities to be alert and strengthen their surveillance. He also added that they must be prepared to manage any kind of situation.
During the meeting, attended by senior officials and experts, the Union Health Minister was briefed on the global COVID-19 situation and the domestic scenario, which included preparedness of all stakeholders.

If reports from the medical experts are to go by, more than 60% of China’s population is likely to be infected by the virus in the next three months; meanwhile, India got into action to review India's COVID preparedness.
Referring to this, Niti Aayog member Dr VK Paul advised people to mask up in crowded places to prevent the spread of the virus, amid fears that the wave of infections in China might spawn new mutations.
