There is now a direct flight between Shillong and Dibrugarh

Northeast air connectivity just got better with direct flights between Shillong and Dibrugarh. The flight connectivity has been done under the RCS-UDAN scheme, and is already effective from October 26. The direct flight has been launched by IndiGo Airlines, and it was flagged off by Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Civil Aviation Minister.
Shillong is located in the state of Meghalaya, while Dibrugarh is situated in Assam. The connectivity of these two states through these two destinations can prove to be extremely important in the future for both business and leisure travellers. The Northeast region now has 15 operational airports today, which was only at 6 back in 2014.

Scindia said in a statement, “In 2014, only six airports were operational in Northeast which has now risen to 15 airports in 2021. Within a short span of seven years, we have achieved this ambitious target. I assure you that this is just the beginning, we are further committed to enhancing the interstate and intrastate connectivity of North-East region. Apart from promoting flight connectivity, our focus is on developing the infrastructure capabilities along with helicopter services for the last mile delivery. To ensure that we recently launched the helicopter policy to further promote Heli Services in the Northeast. We want the bring the travellers from all over the country to the region.”
Travel between Shillong and Dibrugarh was not an easy thing to do. Travellers had to cover the entire distance in 12 hours, through road and train to travel between these two destinations. With the direct flights, you can now travel between these two places in a matter of 75 minutes, and that too in comfort. Both these states are big on tourism, and the flights should further help in that regard.
