Enchanting world: This river in Portugal looks like a ‘Blue Dragon’ from above!

Our beautiful planet is full of surprises and this river in Portugal is a perfect example of this fact! We are talking about the Odeleite Dam which when viewed from above, resembles that of the shape of a gorgeous ‘dragon’. The river is also known as the ‘Blue Dragon River’ because of its dark blue colour.


Constructed in Castro Marim municipality, in the Algarve, on the Odeleite River, the dam is simply breathtakingly beautiful. There’s not much information about the history of this awe-striking river.
Who discovered the river?

Photographer Steve Richards was once flying over the dam and captured the river in his camera which looked unusually curvy and deep blue in colour. He shared the image on his social media which went immediately viral.

The river’s outline is just like a Chinese dragon. A long, meandering blue dragon. In Chinese mythology, a dragon is considered absolutely sacred. It is an important symbol of power and strength in Chinese culture. Since the picture went viral, the river has attracted international attention in recent years, especially tourists from China.
