Colorado Mushroom Festival: a celebration of a kind!

The Telluride Mushroom Festival, also popular as Shroomfest, is one of the most unique festivals celebrated in the town of Telluride in Colorado, USA. The annual mushroom celebration draws tourists from around the world and this year too, the state is expecting the same. This year will see the 41st edition of the festival and it will be held from 18th to 22nd August.

What to expect?
During this festival, mushrooms are discussed elaborately as a food and medicine. The prime motive of organising the fest is to educate the world about mushrooms and its benefits. Visitors and mushroom lovers reach Colorado from all across the globe to be a part of this unique celebration.

People wander through picturesque mountain meadows in search of fungi in the forest. They collect them and identify each one. Apparently, Colorado mountains are extremely rich in mushrooms and one can find more than a dozen varieties of mushroom.
At the end of the fest, a parade is organised through downtown Telluride, wherein people wear mycologically-inspired costumes. People participating in the event start preparing for the same months in advance.

Telluride happened to be a former Victorian mining town in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. The town is close to the canyon right in the middle of forested peaks.
