According to ANI, Tamil Nadu recorded 11 cm, Kerala 6-7 cm, and coastal Karnataka 9 cm in the past day. "Heavy to very heavy rainfall, ranging from 12 to 20 cm, is anticipated in interior Kerala and south interior Tamil Nadu," Roy stated.
Weather impact and safety measures
The IMD regional office warns that heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, potentially disrupting traffic and damaging weaker structures. Residents are advised to stay indoors and limit travel whenever possible. It’s also important to keep children and pets inside for safety during this period.
Safety precautions include securing loose items like timber or debris that could be swept away by rain or wind, causing accidents. People outdoors should avoid contact with metal structures, utility lines, trees, and fences, as these can conduct electricity during thunderstorms. Additionally, staying away from windows, doors, and corded devices indoors is advised to reduce lightning risks.
North India’s weather outlook
While southern India braces for heavy rains, northern India is expected to experience clear weather over the next few days. "Strong winds will persist across northern India for the next 2-3 days, with no significant temperature changes anticipated until November 3," Roy explained. However, following this period, a drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius is likely due to north-westerly winds moving into the region.

IMD’s seven-day forecast indicates very heavy rain over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe on November 1, with rainfall intensity expected to reduce gradually in the following days. A moderate temperature drop is also predicted for northern and eastern India between November 3-7.
As India’s weather patterns shift, it’s crucial for residents in affected regions to stay informed via reliable sources and take necessary precautions. By adhering to safety measures and staying updated with official weather forecasts, residents can ensure their safety during these changing conditions.
