Use of laser beams and drones are banned near the Delhi airport for the next 2 months

The use of any Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) such as drones, along with the use of laser beams has been banned at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for the next two months. The decision has been taken by the Delhi Police as UAS and laser beams pose a serious security threat. It is also said to be hazardous for aviation safety.
The order prohibiting these items by the Delhi Police read, "As there have been frequent report based on credible information that terrorists have plan to carry out terror attack by using UAS including drones, para-gliders and hang-gliders, UAVs, aero-models. Therefore its use by the members of the public is prohibited.”

According to reports, the order will hence remain in force from February 12 to April 12, 2022 as of now. Bijender Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, sub division Palam, said that there have been incidents reported wherein pilots got distracted by laser beams when trying to land aircrafts.
Furthermore, there are a number of banquets, hotels, farm houses, and restaurants in the area, where a lot of lights are used, which includes laser beams. This causes nuisance and causes visual distraction to the pilots.

Earlier this year, the Delhi Police had banned the use of para-gliders, para-motors, UAVs, UAS, hang gliders, micro-light aircraft, hot air balloons, remotely-piloted aircraft, small-size powered aircraft, quadcopters or even para-jumping from aircraft.
