G20 summit: Flights to and from Delhi likely to be cancelled on these dates

It is reported that the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which is responsible for handling the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, has received multiple requests from airlines for cancellation of flights due to the G20 Summit 2023, which is set to happen on September 9 and 10.

However, this is in contrast to other reports that stated that the request is not because of a lack of parking space for aircraft.
Referring to this, the DIAL issued a statement stating that they take immense pride in India’s role as the host of the G20 Summit 2023. It added that the current news on cancellations of flights has no link to the parking of aircrafts, as they have already provided ample space for required parking.

The statement further added that the decisions to cancel the flights have been taken by airlines, mostly because of traffic restrictions due to the G20 summit. It also added that there might be approximately 80 arrivals and 80 departures that may be affected due to these cancellations as they are committed to working closely with airlines to minimise any inconvenience caused to passengers.

If reports are to go by, around 1,000 flights might be rescheduled or cancelled within the said days. Reports also suggest that some airlines have also been asked to reposition their aircraft and park those at other airports.

September 8 has been declared as an off day in Delhi due to the G20 Summit, whereas September 7 is a holiday for Janmashtami. Travellers who are keen to spend a long weekend away from the city can also plan ahead respectively.

Also, the Delhi Police has advised people to take into consideration extra time for their travel as roads will likely face heavy congestion during this period.
