If reports are to go by, the subterranean warren had remained abandoned for centuries and was eventually found to be 18 stories deep, which was capable of housing up to 20,000 residents. The area also had schools, chapels, and even stables down there.
Records add that during the Byzantine period (about 395 CE to 1453 CE), the area extended to include water channels and wells.
You will be surprised to know that Derinkuyu is now open to the public to visit, although only 10% of it is accessible. Do let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
