Reportedly, the NWS recorded a temperature of 54.4 degrees Celsius at 3:41 PM at the Furnace Creek near the visitors' center in the Death Valley on Sunday, August 16. However, this is only preliminary temperature and not yet official until verification and a formal review. The agency will be forming a committee to authenticate the validity of the reading.
It is 282 ft below the sea level, thus, being the lowest destination in the world. It is called the Death Valley due to a lack of food and water; hardly anyone manages to survive in the region. Nonetheless, it makes for a photogenic place.
