According to Blue Origin, the space travel firm, the online auction went on for a month, wherein around 7500 people from 159 countries registered. On Saturday, there were 20 high roller bidders.
The bidding picked up pace after Bezos announced that he along with his brother, Mark, would also be in the New Shepard's first crew flight. The news boosted bidding and the result is finally here. The winning amount will be donated to the firm’s Club for the Future, which is an educational effort to promote science and tech.
The capsule that is going to space is completely automated, and can accommodate six passengers. Every passenger will have his own big window. The firm’s top sales director, Ariane Cornell, informed that the auction for the fourth and final seat will be announced soon.
The firm has not yet disclosed the identity of the winner. As per the sources, the firm will announce the winner’s name in a couple of weeks, sometime around July 20, on the 52nd anniversary of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's moon landing.
