Vaccines should not form part of vaccination holiday packages - UN World Tourism Organization

The concept of vaccine tourism is being strongly criticised by the World Committee on Tourism Ethics, which is an independent cell of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). Apparently, the committee is not in favour of vaccine tourism and ‘vaccination holiday packages’.

According to UNWTO, “vaccines should not form part of vaccination holiday packages and must remain a global public good.” The committee believes that the COVID-19 certificates for international travel must be free and available to all without any discrimination.UNWTO adopted a few recommendations on such certificates for global travel under the Chairmanship of Pascal Lamy. They have also recommended that these certificates must be limited in time and use.
Lamy said, “We hope that this recommendation will provide a global ethical framework that will aid the much-needed recovery of tourism”.

Given the fact that some countries around the globe have already started welcoming visitors, UNWTO has decided to assess the implications health certificates might have on tourism ethics.
